Bayern put pressure on right from the start. After about 40 seconds, Sané failed due to a tackle from Real goalkeeper Andrij Lunin. In the seventh minute, Sané missed the goal on his second chance. Kane also almost missed from the halfway line in the ninth minute when Lunin was well in front of the goal. Real, however, remained calm. In particular, national team returnee Kroos ensured more control in the game for the record winners. With his through ball through midfield and Bayern’s defense, he provided the assist for Vinícius Júnior’s first goal.

Bayern came back with a free kick from Kane (42′) shortly before the break, but it narrowly missed the goal. Kroos (51′) almost scored Real’s second goal at the start of the second half – but Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was able to parry it.

Just two minutes later, Sané scored Bayern’s first goal. Jamal Musiala was fouled in the penalty area shortly afterwards. With the resulting penalty, Kane scored Bayern’s second goal. In the 83rd minute, Júnior equalized for Real with a penalty kick.

“They did to us what they do to everyone: two goals from two chances to score. That’s why it feels a bit strange now,” said Coach Tuchel about the game. But the starting position is now basically crystal clear, it continued. “Now we don’t need to think about it: 90 minutes, 120 minutes, penalty shootout. Victory in Madrid and on to Wembley,” said Tuchel. Bayern’s last Champions League triumph at Wembley was eleven years ago. The draw was “reasonably fair,” said Kroos. “We are reasonably confident that we will progress at home,” he said.

The second leg will take place on May 8th in Madrid. Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain will play in the second semi-final.
