The professional careers of Tony Jantschke and Patrick Herrmann come to an end on the VfL Viktoria Jüchen-Garzweiler sports field

The professional careers of Tony Jantschke and Patrick Herrmann came to an end on Tuesday evening on the VfL Viktoria Jüchen-Garzweiler sports field. Maybe they will return again if, like their ex-colleague Lars Stindl, they decide to wear the Weisweiler Elf jersey. But in Jüchen they were once again part of an official Borussia Mönchengladbach team.

Borussia won 5-1 against the regional league team, which achieved a respectable fourth place as a promoted team. 1,500 spectators wanted to see Gerardo Seoane’s team before they say goodbye to the summer break. “Thank you for serving us this game as citizens of Jüchen,” VfL chairman Christoph Sommer said a few words to Borussia’s sports director Roland Virkus. After the final whistle, the players signed autographs and took selfies with the fans.

Florian Neuhaus scores the 1-0 for Gladbach

Almost half of the squad was missing, mostly regular and national players such as Nico Elvedi, Manu Koné and Robin Hack, who missed the last Bundesliga game at VfB Stuttgart injured. There were three players left from the starting eleven from the 4-0 defeat in Stuttgart: Alassane Plea, Luca Netz and Nathan Ngoumou, plus four of Saturday’s jokers in Lukas Ullrich, Fabio Chiarodia, Shio Fukuda and Herrmann. Tobias Sippel, Christoph Kramer, Florian Neuhaus and Jantschke completed the eleven.

When it comes to Neuhaus, it is not clear, but it is quite possible that he also played for Gladbach’s professionals for the last time. However, at the age of 27, a commitment to the traditional team is still a long way off. On the dripping wet pitch in Jüchen – the heavy rains had stopped at kick-off – Neuhaus showed that he was keen to end the season in the country. He and his colleagues let the ball run as best they could, the entertainment value came first, the result was secondary.

The first goal came in the 40th minute: Kramer crossed to Herrmann, who passed it to Neuhaus, whose well-considered shot from the edge of the penalty area hit the top corner. Shortly afterwards, Ngoumou increased the score to 2-0 heading into the break. Jüchen also had chances and switched well.

Kilian Sauck flicks the ball into the corner

Seoane made seven changes in the second half, including top talents Kilian Sauck and Winsley Boteli, who were rewarded for their strong season. Both made their first appearances for Gladbach’s professionals because the U23 players are already on vacation. He was on the pitch for nine minutes before Sauck scored a dream goal: the 17-year-old shot the ball from the left into the corner with his right hand.

The momentum was now a bit gone. Rocco Reitz hit the crossbar, but the host scored first: top scorer Fatlum Ahmeti defeated Moritz Nicolas. Borussia still scored two goals: Boteli after a corner and – no joke – Tobias Sippel ensured the final score. The goalkeeper replaced Fukuda in the attack in the final phase, and Sippel really wanted to get on the field.

Borussia: Sippel (46. Nicolas) – Ullrich, Jantschke (46. Friedrich), Chiarodia, Netz (46. Digberekou) – Kramer (46. Weigl), Neuhaus (46. Reitz) – Herrmann (46. Sauck), Plea (46. Boteli), Ngoumou (58th Michaelmas) – Fukuda (78th Sippel)
Tore: 0:1 Neuhaus, 0:2 Ngoumou, 0:3 Sauck, 1:3 Ahmeti, 1:4 Digberekou, 1:5 Sippel
