Coach Red Sparks Ko Hee Jin commented on the contract extension Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi at the club from the city of Daejeon.

Confirmation of Megawati’s contract extension was released on Tuesday (30/4). Thus, the Indonesian women’s national volleyball team player will return to compete in the South Korean volleyball league for the second season.

Hee Jin stated that the contract extension with Megawati was carried out without much consideration. Both parties also agreed to perform better in the coming season.

“We decided to renew our contract with Mega without hesitation. Mega also wants to show better performance next season. We will prepare ourselves well to create good synergy from the start of the season,” said Hee Jin as quoted by The Sports Times.

Megawati appeared in the Korean volleyball league last season and received positive attention. One of them is to bring the Red Sparks to the top three and enter the playoffs to win the title.

The last time the Red Sparks advanced to the playoffs before Megawati’s arrival was in 2017.

“We can advance to postseason play [playoff] because of the extraordinary performance of foreign players like Mega,” said Hee Jin as quoted from ISplus.

Apart from being able to bring the Red Sparks into the playoffs, Megawati also recorded a prestigious score by winning 736 points and being ranked seventh in the top scorer of the Korean volleyball league. Apart from Megawati, he is also in the top four players with an average successful attack of 43.95 percent.

Megawati is one of two foreign players from Asia who will remain in the Korean volleyball league next season with her old club. Apart from Megawati, there is Wipawi Srithong who will defend the Hillstate club.

Meanwhile, two Indonesian volleyball players, Yolla Yuliana and Aulia Suci, are taking part in a tryout session to join a Korean volleyball club in the 2024/2025 season.
