Korea won gold medal in badminton for 2 consecutive years
Badminton women’s doubles Lee So-hee (30, Incheon International Airport) and Baek Hana (24, MG Saemaeul Geumgo) won the March Best Player Award (MVP) at the 2024 MBN Women’s Sports Awards.
Lee So-hee and Baek Hana, ranked second in the world, defeated Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2024 All England Open Women’s Doubles final held at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, England on the 17th of last month.
Thanks to the performance of the two players, Korean badminton won the gold medal for the second consecutive year at the 125th All England Open this year.
With this, Lee So-hee and Baek Hana shook off the sadness of finishing in second place in last year’s finals.
Lee So-hee and Baek Hana, who were ranked in the world’s top 100 in the second half of 2022, enjoyed a rapid rise by winning three international competitions in the first half of last year alone. About four months before the Paris Olympics, he won the All England Open, increasing his chances of winning an Olympic gold medal.
Lee So-hee said, “I am even more happy to have won the award this year as well as last year. I want to work harder and deliver good news after the Olympics.” Baek Hana also said, “I was the winner in June last year, so I will receive it more often and I will prepare well with my sister so that I can achieve good results this year as well.”
