Lustenau has to deliver in the derby against Altach

Bottom team Austria Lustenau can come within two points of their local rivals with a home win against Cashpoint Altach on Saturday (5 p.m.), while the guests can take a big step towards staying in the league. Both teams have not yet achieved complete success in the Admiral Bundesliga qualifying group, and there are many signs pointing to a draw again.

Seven rounds before the end of the season, Lustenau is five points each short of Altach as well as WSG Tirol and Blau-Weiß Linz, who face each other at the same time on Saturday. Just two hours after kick-off in the alternative stadium in Bregenz, the situation could be much friendlier for coach Andreas Heraf’s team.

“The situation before the game promises to be very exciting,” said Heraf. “We are playing hard against relegation, Altach have a few points lead, which we of course want to reduce. That has to be our goal.”

A draw as the minimum goal for Altach

While Heraf has already achieved two victories since taking office in the winter, Altach has not yet achieved complete success in 2024. The last win to date was on December 5th and came with a 3-0 win against Lustenau, of all places, who had already been beaten 3-0 in the first duel of the season. Coach Joachim Standfest’s team recently had five draws in a row.

The coach wouldn’t be dissatisfied with a sixth: “A draw would help us more than Lustenau, that’s a minimum goal. No matter how the game ends, it will still be exciting in the relegation battle.” There has been anticipation for the game in Altach for days. “Everyone knows what it’s about. You’ll be asked about the game all week. These are the most beautiful matches,” explained Standfest.
