Latvian National Ice Hockey Team Takes on Role of Rescuers with State Fire and Rescue Service

On Tuesday, April 16, the Latvian national ice hockey team, in cooperation with the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), visited the College of Fire Protection and Civil Defense (UCAK), where they assumed the roles of rescuers.

Not only the players of the Latvian national hockey team, but also the coaches of the national team – Harijs Vītoliņš, Artūrs Irbe, Ville Peltonens, Petteri Nummelins, Lauris Dārziņš, Āriks Visockis and Pēteris Groms – put on the firefighter’s equipment.

As the national team’s head coach Harijs Vītoliņš admitted after the gathering event, this was a great opportunity for our national team to see how hard, responsible and difficult the work of VUGD rescuers is.

Such initiatives not only bring the team together, but also promote a closer connection between sports representatives and specialists from various professions in society.

The Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) expresses its gratitude to VUGD for the opportunity to visit UCAK’s training base and assume the role of rescuers.
