Siheung Jinmal Elementary School showed off its spirit by winning the first-year championship in the girls’ elementary school team event and individual doubles event at the 2024 Kim Hak-seok Cup National Badminton Championships.

Jinmalcho, led by coach Kim Young-min and coach Jeon Nuri, won the singles and doubles in the finals of the women’s first team competition held at the Chungnam Taekwondo Hall in Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do on the 4th. They achieved a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Suwon Taejang Elementary School and secured their first loss of the season.

As a result, Jin Malcho, an ’emerging powerhouse’ founded in June 2010, won three gold medals at the 2023 National Interscholastic Badminton Championships, the Elementary School Federation Long-Term Student Championships (August), and the National Federation Category Championships (October) last year. Following this, he showed off his strongest power by taking the top spot in four consecutive competitions.

Coach Kim Young-min said, “It seems that the faithful training in Jeju Island and Gimje City last winter with the help of the school, Siheung City, and the city office of education showed good results,” and added, “I am grateful to the players who followed my guidance well.” “It was effective to prepare by thoroughly analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing team’s players,” he explained.

Jinmal Elementary School, which advanced to the final after defeating Pocheon Elementary School 3-0 in the semifinals, got off to an uneasy start as it lost its first singles match to Taeyeon Kim 0-2 against Taejang Elementary School, which advanced 3-1 over Seoul Soui Elementary School.

However, after Yang Ji-woo beat Song Hyun-ah 2-0 to tie the game score at 1-1 in the second singles match, Yang Ji-woo and Hong Yeo-ul beat Lim Soo-yeon and Lee So-min 2-0 in the first doubles match and succeeded in a comeback. Taejangcho, which was in crisis, brought the game back to square one in the second doubles match when Kim Tae-yeon and Song Hyun-ah defeated Kim Chae-won and Kim Ha-young 2-0.

Then, in the third and final singles match, Kim Chae-won easily defeated Taejangcho Lim Su-yeon 2-0, marking the finale of the close match.

Yang Ji-woo and Hong Yeo-ul of Jinmal Elementary School defeated Park Geum-byeol and Kim Se-jin (Gwangju Gyerim Elementary School) in the individual doubles final with a score of 21-16 in both the first and second sets, winning the championship and winning two gold medals, including the team event. In the female elementary school individual singles final, Kim Tae-yeon (Taejang Elementary) won the championship by defeating Song Hyeon-ah from the same school with a score of 2-0 (21-13 21-19).

On the other hand, Taejang Elementary, which reached the finals of the team event in the Nam Elementary Division, unfortunately lost 2 to 3 to Dangjin Elementary and finished as runners-up, with singles Tae-woong Yoo (Tae-jang Elementary), doubles Lee Geon-woo and Lee Seung-hoon (Seongnam Jungbu Elementary), and mixed doubles Lim Hyun-woo (Gimpo G Sports Club). Kim Sarang (Namyangju G Sports Club) lost both finals and had to be satisfied with second place.
