Javier Tebas Shines in ISDE Sports Convention Presentation Ceremony: Defending Spanish Clubs, Targeting Florentino and Carlos Herrera

Javier Tebas was one of the main protagonists of the presentation ceremony of the 5th edition of the ISDE Sports Convention. The president of LaLiga reviewed current issues, defended the competitiveness of Spanish clubs in Europe and threw darts at Florentino and Carlos Herrera.

Champions: “It would take a toll on all those who are the same story every year. We are not going to be competitive, this League is not competitive… well here we are. I like to do analysis with perspective, five or six years from now. Better, last season was not very good, but the previous season we were champions and Villarreal was a semi-finalist, this year we can have three semi-finalists… We are very competitive although some are determined that we are not.”

Three in semis? “The important thing for me is a global assessment and it shows that economically we are not number 1, because it is the Premier for many factors, but sportingly we are very competitive in Europe.”

Haaland, Mbappé, Bellingham, bad performances: “If you ask me, the best players are always in LaLiga. I give Mbappé 99.99% that he will be in Madrid. I see Haaland as more complicated in the short term. He has been at City for a short time to consider an exit”.

State clubs, lost war? “The only wars that are lost are those in which you do not fight. If LaLiga left that war it would be a problem for Spanish and European football. The fact that there is economic non-sustainability and unfair competition complicates football a lot. It causes a lack of sustainability that would cause the bankruptcy of some clubs”.

RFEF elections: “The CSD has remained so neutral that we have maintained a plunder in the Federation for many years. Neutrality is one thing and independence is another. Institutions have to be independent, but they have to position themselves with good. In life there are “We have to be independent, neutrality is for other things. Now it seems that everyone knew what was happening and those who had to solve the complaints we filed want to teach lessons.”

“Carlos Herrera criticizes me. It is not a question of continuity or not, it is looking for solutions to a system from years ago, from Villar, which I already denounced. It is the first time that missiles have not fallen on us from the Federation for six months. I What I’m saying is, let’s look for solutions. I’m sure we can find thousands of people better than Rocha, but is there any possibility that any of them could be president of the Federation? And I have to know how to adapt to change the federation. Can Rocha lead? It depends on the team he surrounds himself with and the decisions he makes. I hope that the first thing he does is a serious compliance department. That is the first. And the second is the implementation of the secret ballot. Me the first day I arrived to LaLiga, secret vote, but really secret vote. I don’t know what anyone votes. That implies freedom, that you have to work hard on complicated votes. I raise the green ballot or the red one, and it points to you, that one has raised the red one. At no time have I seen Rocha in any role intervening in acts of corruption. It is true that he was on the Boards of Directors, but he was not one of the strong territorial ones. Rocha was a vase, therefore he did not intervene in the issues. Among the possibilities of regenerating, Rocha, among the alternatives, is him. If Rocha wants to be re-elected, unless he takes that path, there is nothing to do. The one who has pulled the strings and has made more than 30 writings is me personally, I have some legitimacy.

CSD: “I didn’t like it because it talks about neutrality and I don’t know if it was as neutral as it should be. In these electoral processes they have to try to stay out of it. We have had very similar ministerial orders for years. Professional football has 12 clubs with 140 members and We contribute 40% of the budgets. I don’t want 40% either, but 12 clubs in the Assembly alone is not fair. The referee team, coaches, players have more… We are the most underrepresented group. We have shown from LaLiga how in 10 years you can change from a bankrupt League to a successful League and the clubs do not lose money. We are leaders in the anti-corruption issue.”

Carlos Herrera: “The first time I found out was when Roberto Gómez interviewed him at De la Morena’s house. I thought he was a ‘Robertada’. What he wants is legitimate. I haven’t heard him criticize the Federation much these years either. I’ve had a meeting with Carlos Herrera, after talking with him for an hour and a half I realized that I could not be president of the Federation. He told me that I have already solved the problem of the SUPERLIGA, I have spoken with Florentino and on the weekend the SuperLIGA and during the week LaLiga. I told him “you haven’t heard anything”. In this house 40 of the 42 clubs are against the project.”

RFEF records and interview with Rubiales: “Two days after the kiss with Jenni Hermoso, I made a tweet with an iceberg. And nothing had happened yet, but it was the tip of a more complicated system, but not because I was an enlightened person. I have been denouncing it everywhere. Rubiales is already in the past, I don’t like to talk about it. We have to consider building what we want. It is clear that the Federation has to radically change. What has been shown is that it is not an issue “personally with Rubiales, it was a cultural issue. Do you think it is normal for a man to have orgies with women? It is not normal.”

2030 World Cup: “I believe there is no risk, FIFA is not there to take the World Cup away from Spain. There would be a risk if it is extended.”

Super League: “Florentino never loses, I always say the same thing. You have to always be attentive, alert. He doesn’t stop. Now he has filed a complaint with the TAD, that’s why I say that the neutrality of the CSD lasts for months. You have to always be attentive. The project of The Super League is not a competition model, it is a management model where the richest clubs change. They generate a lot and will distribute to the rest in solidarity. It was like the feudal era. There was the castle, there were the vassals…”

Power of Thebes: “I defend myself as best I can. They talk about power and influence, the photo of the box against Manchester City says it all. I didn’t see that photo in the Metropolitano. I don’t care if the Government is from the PP, PSOE or Esquerra, Florentino is cross”.

Racism in Spain: “Spain is not racist, isolated events want to be treated as events that occur in all fields. The important thing is to fight it and know that these people must be eliminated from the stadiums. We are working on it.”

Vinicius victim or guilty? “Vinicius is a victim. The difference between Vinícius and players of the same race is that he is leading a movement. When someone leads he is always a source of anger and a target. He has decided to lead the fight against racism and that leads to that. Regardless about his attitude on the field, which I am not going to give an opinion because I would have to give an opinion about many. I am not Vinicus’s father or the coach. Would I like him to improve? Yes, but many others too.

Tebas: “It is not a fine, it is a claim for damages”

Piracy: “It has gone up 30%. It had gone down but this year it has gone up. In economic value by about 400-500 million euros, and worldwide another 500 million. 1,000 million that would be added more.”

Telegram: “We knew a year ago that there was a lawsuit against Telegram. More than courage, there was a lack of legal basis. Something more was needed.”

Diakhaby: “We did two expert tests and it didn’t come out that I had insulted him. So we can’t sanction or accuse a player.”

Gil Marín says one thing about the Super League and Cerezo says something else: “I listen to what Michelangelo does, which is that he has the powers.”

Rocha, a vase: “I said that he was a vase in the time of Rubiales. There was a praetorian guard and I did not see Rocha in the praetorian guard. If he does it because he is on the Managing Commission and he can’t, if he doesn’t do it because he doesn’t do it. Did he fire Camps Yes. Did he fire Cueto? The solution is not Carlos Herrera or other outsiders. I can guarantee that Tebas will be supporting Rocha until the day he sees that he is not moving forward with the changes. There are four days left. I deserve a minimum of something “I know what needs to be done. If it’s not done, then I’ll say I was wrong. I’m sure there are a thousand better than Rocha, but can any of those thousand win with the existing system?”

Negreira case: “The mere fact of paying the vice president of the referees is a crime of sporting corruption. It was to try to influence the designation of promotions and relegations, I’m not saying to buy referees. If it had not been prescribed, I think Barcelona would have been relegated.”

RFEF and Rubiales Case: “It is a criminal organization, it is perfectly structured if you see the conversations. There was a certain hierarchy that is needed in an organization. I am sure that more things will come out. Some I already knew, but I had no proof.”
