Azi dominates badminton, which should come as no surprise. There are actually three countries that have a serious chance of winning medals in all five events, including gold: Japan, China and of course Indonesia, the country of badminton craze. Thailand and Chinese Taipei also have some excellent chances, outside Asia it will mainly have to come from Denmark, especially in the men’s singles. No Spain, reigning champion Carolina Marin unfortunately has to miss the Games due to injury.
The Netherlands is also participating and with Selena Piek/Cheryl Seinen and Selena Piek/Robintafeling there are even two (albeit quite small) medal chances, who knows!
The group matches will be played until July 27, after which we will enter the knockout phase. Finals from July 30.
