Immerse Yourself in the World of MLB The Show 24: A Baseball Fan’s Ultimate Experience

When stealing bases is not a crime

Baseball fan? Don’t worry, it happens in the best families. Are you passionate about the excitement of each pitch, the strategy of the game and the adrenaline of a home run? Well, then you have to know two fundamental things. The first, they are almost an anomaly in this country and, the second, we have a proposal so that they can develop as such: immerse themselves in the world of MLB The Show 24!

Like last year, when we run the game for the first time we will find a configuration system to make our experience more arcade or more real. The game modes remain the same, but it’s worth checking out to see what’s new. Road to the Show, which is a single-character career mode, which now starts from the famous “combine” of rookies, and then advances in different tests with the hope of being “drafted” by a major league team. This year’s surprise is that for the first time we will be able to create a female character. In this way, the girls in MLB The Show 24 can show if they have what it takes to be the biggest star in Baseball. Good for Sony adding diversity to the sport!

Then we have Diamond Dynasty, the most extensive mode in the game. Many sub-game modes, such as “Moments” to relive baseball history, play Online Rankings against other players, Mini Seasons, and much more. Of course, all this while we collect cards and earn packs to strengthen our team.

Finally we have Franchise, career mode and team manager. Here we can buy and sell players, scouts, train, get sponsors, etc. The novelty is that we can program so that the matches are simulated, but leaving open the possibility of entering to play them when certain conditions are met. At the same time, it allows you to exit the simulation if these conditions are no longer met. So even if we choose the first entry as the earliest entry we want to play, we could still switch between playing and simulating multiple times in the game. This all depends on how many great moments arise and what our configuration of importance of the situation is. It is a very good option for anyone who has little free time and wants to play as many games per session.

In addition, the ability to search for versatile players who can perform in multiple positions, season awards and also real-time injuries was included which adds an additional layer of authenticity to the game. The latter allows you to experience the vicissitudes of a real baseball season. In other words, if a player in real life has an injury or condition that will cause him to miss games, the same player will suffer the same problem in Franchise mode. Therefore, it is better to pay attention to the real games, hope and pray that the best players in our team are in the best condition most of the time.

Stories that move

This new 2024 installment continues with the Storylines, which are now divided into 2 sections. On the one hand, the Captain Pass, to trace the career of a more contemporary player. In this edition we look at the life of Derek Jeter (14-time All-Star, 5-time World Series champion and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame). With him we played important moments, with many videos directed by himself. The other alternatives include “Negro Leagues Season 2” with four new stories, Buck Leonard, Henry Aaron, Josh Gibson and Tony Stone. The latter was the first woman to play professional baseball.

Without a doubt, we may like this sport more or less, but those of us who love high competition—and who have seen so many episodes of ESPN’s “30 for 30”—don’t care what the sport is disguised as. We care about the experiences within it and the Storylines are a beautiful blockbuster within this game. High quality sports journalism, applause and respect for the Sony San Diego studio.

Graphics and Gameplay

In the graphical section, some improvements were made to the players’ facial scans. At the same time, the detail of the lighting on the skin, the physics of the hair and the glow in the eyes makes everything much more realistic. Nearly 400 new animations were added to improve the fluidity and realism of the game. Compared to MLB The Show 23, the visual and animation changes represent a notable improvement, increasing our immersion in the game experience.

Lighting has also been improved and is especially noticeable in cloudy and night games. All in all, we do not feel that the graphical capacity of the next-gen consoles is being taken full advantage of (some washed out textures and little particle animation on the grass). Several new stadiums were added such as Seattle Kingdom and Pittsburg’s Greenly Fields. In addition, the Stadium Creator is back to be able to build our ideal stadium, but be careful because it is only for next-gen consoles.

In gameplay, Sony San Diego had already commented that the focus would be more on pitching and fielding than on hitting. And so they did: they added four new precise gestures and more changes to the straightball, making it much more difficult to use. Because of this, our skill is more important in this edition, in case we choose a high casting difficulty. Additionally, we can now experience the precise system from the perspective and movements of a left-handed pitcher.

MLB The Show 24’s multiplayer mode has multiplatform cross-play, allowing you to challenge other baseball lovers from all available consoles. Plus, with cross-progression, we can pick up where we left off and get content to use on other platforms. At the same time, we have the cooperative mode, where we can seek glory together with friends. In short, MLB The Show 24 continues to improve on everything we saw last year. With these additions, it undoubtedly makes it the most authentic baseball game on the market. And, to the delight of our dirty pockets, it is worth mentioning that it will be available on Xbox Game Pass. [i]
