Against Arsenal, Joshua Kimmich is FC Bayern’s celebrated star. After the match, the national player, who is often criticized, has clear words. Teammate Sami Khedira supports him and attacks his own profession.

National player Joshua Kimmich has clearly complained about a lack of support for himself during FC Bayern Munich’s weak phases this season. After the 1-0 win in the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Arsenal, in which the defender was the match winner with a header on Wednesday evening, the 29-year-old said: “It was probably the most important goal of my career. It’s true that the goal is very, very good. I had to listen to a lot last year and received very, very little support.”

When asked whether he meant people from the club, the national player replied to journalists: “Generally. Hinz and Kunz commented on me personally. There was little there who was pro Kimmich. So it’s really nice if I can make sure that the mood changes.”

Former world champion Sami Khedira was happy with his former teammate in the national team. “After all this criticism, he more than deserves it,” said the former midfielder. Khedira also expressed great incomprehension about the recent criticism of Kimmich from experts: “He is one of our leaders, and ultimately we have to protect such players. And when we then complain about it in Germany and say that he should get lost and go to another country, we don’t need him, he can’t do anything – experts, sorry, you have no idea! You have no idea about football.” Khedira said this at DAZN, where he works as an expert.

“Kimmich will also show it at the European Championships,” says Khedira

Kimmich has undoubtedly had “a difficult time,” said Khedira. But the defensive player is also important for German football with a view to the home European Championship next summer. “Today he showed it, and he will also show it at the European Championships and show it in the future: a really, really great character, a really, really great player who sometimes goes a little crazy, but that’s what we’re here for too “To protect him to some extent.”

Kimmich saw his entry into the premier class semi-finals against Real Madrid thanks to his goal as a reward for not giving up. “In the end it proves once again that hard work is always worth it. I’m very proud that the evening went like this. I’m really happy about the goal and about reaching the semi-finals.”

The first leg between Bayern and Real will take place on April 30th in Munich. The second leg will be played on May 8th at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. “This is one of the hardest games you can play,” said Tuchel: “Semi-final against the biggest club in the world. I don’t think we are the top favorites in this constellation. Sure, Real Madrid, you almost have to ask, who else? Carlo Ancelotti, who else?”
