Dominant Basketball Talent DJ Burns Jr. Sparks Interest from NBA and NFL Scouts

This colossus could shake up the NBA

A basketball talent is in the focus of NFL scouts! 23-year-old DJ Burns Jr. reached the Final Four of the March Madness tournament with his NC State college basketball team and was defeated by Purdue in the semifinals. Until then, the forward caused a stir with his dominant style of play and physical abilities.

The 23-year-old is 2.06 meters tall and weighs around 125 kilograms, but still impresses with his light-footed style of play. During the regular college season he averaged 13 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists. But in the ongoing playoffs, Burns improved his numbers to 18.3 points, 5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Talent was a key factor in his team making it to the Final Four.

NFL scouts are taking notice of Burns

With his performance, the forward not only put himself on the notices of NBA scouts, but NFL player hunters are also said to have become aware of Burns. As NFL Network’s Peter Schrager reported, several scouts and general managers are apparently eyeing him as a possible O-line talent in football. According to the journalist’s information, a talent scout is said to have invited Burns to a workout before the March Madness tournament.

The basketball player was recently asked about the reports. On The Dan Patrick Show, Burns said his plan was to “play in the NBA one day.” The 23-year-old added that he would explore other basketball options before considering a move into football.

Burns believes the speculation is caused by the hype surrounding him as well as the strong performances of his NC State team. He made it clear: “They always find a way to talk about us and that’s just another topic,” said the basketball talent.

Burns’ trainer: “He’s a teddy bear”

Although he reiterated in a media round on Thursday that the NFL was not an issue for him, Burns has a football past. “I got my first scholarship offer and then quickly decided on basketball,” explained the 23-year-old.

His college coach Kevin Keatts was also asked about the speculation and replied: “There’s no way he’s going to play football.” The NC State coach added: “I mean, he’s got a great touch. He is not the bully you think he is. Have you ever spent time with him? Off the pitch he’s a teddy bear.”
