Paul Auster died in his Brooklyn home on Tuesday evening at the age of 77. An eclectic pen who worked as a novelist, essayist, poet and filmmaker, the writer succumbed to the consequences of his lung cancer diagnosed in December 2022. The tragic end of months of suffering in what his wife, Siri Hustvedt, also a writer , defined as “Cancerland”, a world punctuated by care, cycles of chemotherapy, pain, where, in the words of Paul Auster, “there are no maps to orient yourself and where we don’t know not if his passport is valid to leave this unknown land.”
