Crucial European Olympic Qualification Tournament and Championships for Italian Archery Set for May in Essen

From 5 to 12 May Essen will host a crucial double event for the outdoor season of Italian archery: the European Olympic qualification tournament (5-6 May) and i European Championships (8-12 May). The German location will therefore host two events in quick succession with the last passes to five continental rings up for grabs while waiting for the World Pre-Olympic in Antalya (with repechages to follow via ranking).

Italy, already certain of an individual women’s quota (thanks to Chiara Rebagliati’s bronze at the 2023 European Games), will therefore take part in the European Pre-Olympic only in the men’s field with the aim of securing an individual pass also among the men. However, the European Championships will have a higher specific weight, because the single-sex team events will assign an Olympic card (which guarantees the presence of 3 representatives also in the individual event at the Games) by sex to the countries not yet qualified with the trios.

The Italian movement is aiming precisely for this goal in both sectors, to complete the en plein and present itself in Paris with the maximum contingent of 6 athletes (3 men and 3 women). In the meantime, Italy has called up the following archers for the Olympic specialty of recurve for Essen: Mauro Nespoli, Federico Musolesi, Alessandro Paoli (involved in the Pre-Olympic and European Championships) for men and Tatiana Andreoli, Lucilla Boari, Chiara Rebagliati (present only at the European Championships) for women.
