Pumas and Chivas wasted the opportunity to add points for the league after drawing 1-1, yesterday in a duel on matchday 14 of the Clausura 2024 tournament of the Liga Mx Femenil, played at the Olimpico Universitario stadium.

Despite the return of its star striker, Alicia Cervantes, after several weeks away from the field due to a knee injury, the team from Guadalajara was unable to return to the path of victory, which is why it added three games without winning, and was left in fifth place in the general classification, with 26 points.

In turn, the UNAM team, which extended its streak to seven games without defeat, remained in sixth place, with 22.

The red and white team took the field determined to win, so it didn’t take them long to dominate possession of the ball and stalk the Auriazul goal, protected by Heidi González, with shots inside the area, as well as from long distance.

Pumas reacted in time and managed to contain the offensive power of the Guadalajara squad. It also generated some dangerous approaches, so the game got stuck in the midfield for a few moments.

It was not until the 23rd minute when the feline fans jumped out of their seats, after Deneisha Blackwood took advantage of a lateral pass from Stephanie Ribeiro to beat Chivas goalkeeper, Blanca Félix, with a shot from the center of the area and make it 1- 0 on the board.

The pleasure did not last long for the Auriazules, Chivas tied the scores (1-1) at 31 through Esbeydi Salazar, who connected a filtered pass to the center to send the ball to the back of the net.

The goal unleashed the euphoria of the large number of red-and-white fans who came to the university stadium field yesterday, and who with their chants overshadowed the cheers of the Auriazule fans.

In the second half, both teams went all out on the attack in search of breaking the tie.

To achieve the task, Chivas coach Antonio Spinelli sent one of his most lethal players to the field: Alicia Cervantes, who received a standing ovation when she came on in place of Gabriela Valenzuela, in the 59th minute.

For his part, the Pumas coach, Marcelo Frigério, also made modifications to give greater dynamism to his team, and although both teams were close to damaging the rival, the timely reactions of the goalkeepers prevented them from scoring again, so they had to settle for the distribution of units.

In another match, the Esmeraldas defeated the Celestes 2-1.
