Important numbers behind us and a new sporting year on the horizon with great goals to achieve. The Baseball Softball Club Rovigo by Itas Mutua presented itself in the traditional press conference at the beginning of the year. The entire rossoblù movement met on the Rovigo diamond of Via Vittorio Veneto, opening the doors of its headquarters to many friends and supporters, including local authorities and sponsors who never fail to give their support to the many initiatives and activities not only sports.

At the beginning, a balance sheet of the past season was drawn up to provide a realistic picture of the size achieved by the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo. Over 200 matches played in 2023, 4 youth scudetto finals reached, 3 regional cups won, 23 call-ups in regional selections, 18 call-ups in the blue jersey with 6 medals won (5 silver and 1 bronze) at the European Youth Championships. Record numbers, added to which are the over 130 attendances at the 2023 Summer Camp, the summer entertainment offered by the rossoblù club to all Rovigo families.

Baseball and softball represent 50% of the Rovigo Serie A

While waiting for the results to arrive from the diamond, the new season opens with a fact that makes the club proud: with its two Senior teams engaged at the top of the national bat and run, the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo alone represents 50% of the teams rovigo of all the sports involved in Serie A. “A long time ago we started with a great desire to do, only two teams and some debt – recalled the rossoblù president Alessandro Boniolo, referring to this important statistic – Today we have arrived well beyond all expectations and for this I must thank all those who have always supported us over the years, without forgetting the volunteers who dedicate themselves every day to this club and the families who place their trust in us by entrusting their children to us. Another great season awaits us, hopefully full of satisfactions.”

The 2024 program promises to be intense, with 14 different baseball and softball teams defending the red and blue colors in their respective championships. Minibaseball has already started training and concentration sessions during the winter, while eight Under teams will give their best in eight different youth championships, some of which have already started: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 18 baseball and Under 13 , Under 15 and Under 18 softball. With Itas Mutua Rovigo we will be looking for another quiet salvation in the national Serie A, but dreams will be built along the way and the season could lead to aiming for much higher goals. During the morning, all the new players arriving at coach Soto Diaz’s court were welcomed. The playoffs will be the minimum objective of the Serie A2 softball girls: after two consecutive participations, it is legitimate to also target the big target of promotion to Serie A1. With the Serie C baseball team, many interesting young people will continue to grow, while the Elite will keep the Rovigo honor high even among amateurs. And then baseball for the blind, a rapidly growing movement which, as recalled by coach Loris Bucca, is making Rovigo a point of reference for the discipline, also expanding to promotional and team building initiatives dedicated to the entire community and companies . At the end of the morning some of those present were involved in a baseball demonstration for the blind, led by Loris Bucca.

The beautiful Rovigo diamond will continue to host some national youth meetings in 2024, in addition to the now usual visit of a US delegation during the summer. Work will also be carried out on the improvement of the entire structure, carrying forward the projects for the construction of a new diamond for youth activities, a lighting system compliant with the standards required for night matches and a tensile structure in the area in front of the camp, which will be financed by the Cariparo Foundation.

Lots of irons in the fire also from an educational and social point of view. The “Summer Camp” will restart on June 10th, which will offer the city’s children and teenagers a high-quality summer entertainment proposal until the end of August. The “Parent School”, a project dedicated to the families of young rossoblù athletes, will be confirmed and the collaboration with sports psychologists will continue. There is also the idea of creating “BSC Rovigo TV”, a channel entirely dedicated to rossoblù baseball and softball which will implement the media part of the club. The link with the scholastic world is also always strong: since last October the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo has been present every week in the schools of Polesine with its technicians and educators to promote baseball, softball and also baseball for the blind.

A big good luck awaiting the start of the championships came from the vice president of the Province of Rovigo Simone Ghirotto and from Pia Poliero of the Panathlon Club Rovigo. Ample space also goes to the many partners who, with their support, allow the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo to be so active and open to innovation. Speakers during the morning included: Lorenzo Rossi from Itas Mutua, Giorgia Fonsatti from Adriatic Lng, Manuela Nissotti from Asm Set, Erika Pigozzi from Fineco Bank, Bruno Candita from Banca del Veneto Centrale and Riccardo Casarotti from Solmec. Everyone underlined the uniqueness of the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo and the great contribution it manages to give to the city community thanks to the many projects, not only sporting ones.
