RIETI – The Poggio Mirteto Educational Center will host a day of sport and integration on Wednesday 17 April, from 10am to 3.30pm, in the open day for the promotion and introduction to sporting activity of young people with visual and sensory disabilities.

The event, open to all, will offer the opportunity to try the sports disciplines of baseball, judo and athletics, adapted to visual and sensory disabilities.
The initiative is part of the Magia project (Movement, Action, Play and Healthy Eating) which started in February, which sees the Province of Latina as the leader and which counts on an institutional partnership formed by Upi Lazio, the Province of Rieti, the Rieti Training Institution, the Agency Latina Training and Work, Frosinone Training Agency, Asd Nuova PalIacanestro in Wheelchair, Asp Sant’Alessio MdS and Asd Nissolino Intesarchitettura. The Municipalities of Amatrice, Poggio Mirteto, Latina and the Fidal Interprovincial Committee of Latina also participate in the project.

“My thanks go to the Municipality of Poggio Mirteto which hosts us in the sports field – commented Cinzia Francia, president of the training institution of the Province of Rieti – Thanks also to the head teacher of the Gregorio da Catino Institute of Higher Education, who made the gym available and will participate with its students in the event, which aims to raise awareness among young people towards the adoption of healthier and more correct lifestyles”.

Magia is part of the national Game Upi program (G.iovani A.utodeterminazione M.ovimento E.mpowerment), focused on sports, where sport is considered a powerful tool for the inclusion of young people, social integration and aggregation between peers.

The beneficiaries are young people aged between 18 and 35, residing in the Provinces of Rieti, Latina and Frosinone. The project promotes generational comparison, social integration and participation in sports by everyone, both able-bodied and disabled young people. The day at the educational center is promoted by S. Alessio Margherita di Savoia, a company providing services to visually impaired people, which carries out activities aimed at the autonomy and social inclusion of the blind and visually impaired. The initiative is financed within the framework of Azione ProvincEgiovani, an initiative promoted by the Union of Italian Provinces and financed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service.
