National coach Horst Hrubesch is really happy with his new player Bibiane Schulze Solano: “The advantage with Bibi is that we now also have a left-footed player and I hope that this will be even better in the next four games and that it will be even easier for us Bibi.”

The 25-year-old Athletic Bilbao player is the winner of the two European Championship qualifiers. In the absence of the injured Marina Hegering, Hrubesch rebuilt the defense and added new player Bibiane Schulze Solano. For the German-Spanish woman it was her second game for the German senior national team. After her convincing debut in Linz, she was on the pitch from the start in Aachen and played right through to the end.

Left-footed for Hrubesch an asset to the team

The surprise coup was a success for Hrubesch: “She was well received. She settled in well. I actually really like the way the other players welcomed her.” Lena Oberdorf confirms how well she fits into the team. “Bibi came into the team extremely well and helped us a lot. You could also see today that she brought in the Spanish flair. She stood on the ball, looked, outplayed players. It’s extremely good for me to play with Bibi, especially on the six. It’s fun to get the balls then. That’s why I can only say good things about them.”

The daughter of a Spanish mother and a German father almost came to the Spanish world champions. She was nominated a year ago, but didn’t play because of an injury. “It just didn’t happen, so I didn’t have to make a decision and I’m definitely happy to play for Germany now,” said the defender.

Good chances for the Olympics

She sees her job as leading the team well and communicating a lot. “I think, simply because of the experience I had in Spain – where I also play as a central defender – that it is important as a central defender to communicate with your teammates and to convey a bit of calm.” Bibiane Schulze Solano presented herself as a good alternative and also has a good chance of making the Olympic team.
