Arsenal and Manchester City in lockstep

The football championship in the English Premier League remains exciting. Arsenal FC and Manchester City won their games on Sunday and are moving in lockstep in the table. Arsenal lead the standings by one point, but have also played one more game than Manchester City.

The English champions achieved their fifth three-point win in a row on Sunday with a 2-0 (1-0) win at Nottingham Forest. Manchester City struggled for a long time and managed a work victory in the end. The goals were scored by former Leipzig player Josko Gvardiol (32nd) and striker Erling Haaland (71st).

Havertz scores against Tottenham

Arsenal won the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur 3:2 (3:0). Thanks to an own goal from Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (15th minute) as well as goals from Bukayo Saka (27th) and Kai Havertz (38th) with his 13th goal of the season, Arsenal led early on, but still had to worry about victory in the end. Cristian Romero (64th) and Heung-Min Son (87th) scored from the penalty spot for their local rivals.

Liverpool FC suffered the next and possibly decisive setback in the race for the English football championship the day before. A few days after the 2-0 defeat in the city derby at Everton FC, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team failed to score more than 2-2 (0-1) at West Ham United on Saturday despite being clearly superior. Liverpool are five points behind Arsenal.
