Mavericks Miss Crucial Free Throws in Game 4 Loss to Thunder, Series Tied 2-2

Dallas Mavericks (W5) – Oklahoma City Thunder (W1) 96:100 (BOXSCORE), Series: 2-2

With 13 seconds left, Doncic marched to the free throw line at -2, but missed the first attempt and thus missed the possible equalizer. OKC did better on the other side, with both Chet Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sinking their attempts and leveling the series.

Free throws were the sticking point for Dallas, as the Mavs shot just 11/22 from the line as a team, blowing a 14-point lead. Doncic recorded a triple-double with 18 points (6/19 FG), 12 rebounds and 10 assists, but had a very weak game for a long time (including 7 TO). Kyrie Irving (9, 4/11, 9 assists) also barely appeared as a scorer. PJ Washington (21, 5/11 3P) was again the hard-working point collector, and Derrick Jones (17, 7/12, 4 blocks) played a good game.

Gilgeous-Alexander (34, 14/27) was the best scorer for OKC, and Holmgren (18, 6/9, 4 blocks) also did well. Jalen Williams (14, 5/19, 9 rebounds) struggled a lot but was in crunch time with two important goals. As a team, the Thunder only shot 38 percent from the field, but due to the Mavs’ free throw allergy, that was enough.
