«We are stunned, is the culprit Juan Jesus?» – Corriere.it

Aurelio De Laurentiis’s club responds decisively to the ruling of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office: «We will no longer join mere facade initiatives of football institutions against racism and discrimination, we will do them ourselves»

Juan Jesus reacted to the federal prosecutor’s sentence with a silent but meaningful message. He changed his Instagram profile photo to a clenched fist: a universal symbol of civil resistance, especially against acts of racism. He is the symbol of Black Power, the movement born in the USA in the 1960s to defend the civil rights of African-Americans. He became even more famous when Tommie Smith and John Carlos showed him worldwide on the podium in Mexico City at the 1968 Olympics, during the playing of the US anthem.

Napoli, which had kept its distance in this matter, at the behest of the player himself, could not help but comment on a sentence which certainly took everyone by surprise, given the progress of the investigation phase with the hearings of both players . «Mr. Acerbi has not been sanctioned» thus begins the Napoli statement, which goes into detail and above all establishes that by virtue of this decision by the federal prosecutor «he will no longer adhere to mere façade initiatives of the football institutions against racism and discrimination , we will continue to do them ourselves, as we have always done, with renewed conviction and determination.”

Here is the heart of the Neapolitan club’s disappointment: «At this point the culprit should, for sporting “justice”, be Juan Jesus, who would have accused a colleague unjustly. It is not reasonable to think that he misunderstood. The principle of greater probability of an event, widely visible from the dynamics of the facts and his excuses on the pitch, which is taken into consideration in sports justice, disappears in this sentence. We are stunned. Furthermore, if what happened on the pitch, as the sentence says, “is certainly compatible with the expression of insults directed… by the Inter player, and not ignored in their offensive and threatening tenor by the same”, why not impose on this last any sanction? Why, then, does the sentence always say, “since proof of the offense has certainly been achieved”, no decision was taken by the sporting “justice” in this regard to punish the person responsible? We are even more stunned.”
