Valter Chrintz Makes Comeback After 72 Weeks: A Clever Solution by Füchse Berlin

Incredible 72 weeks. That’s 16 months and 17 days since Valter Chrintz (23) from Füchse Berlin has played a handball game. The right winger is making his comeback on Saturday after a long knee injury.

But not in the Liqui Moly Handball Bundesliga with the Berliners, but in the 2nd league with VfL Potsdam against EHV Aue (6 p.m. Dyn). This is made possible by a clever idea from Füchse managing director Bob Hanning (56), who is also a trainer in Potsdam.

Despite the parade show, this spin is untenable

Background: There is currently no place for Valter Chrintz on the right wing in the Füchse squad. Because the Swedish European champion from 2022 was injured, the Berliners extended the game again with oldie Hans Lindberg (42). And his replacement in this position since summer 2023 has been Hakun West av Teigum (22/Faroe Islands).

What to do with Chrintz, who urgently needs match practice after his cruciate ligament tear and meniscus damage (several operations)?

Hanning explains to Bild: “We changed the contract and made the change in February. He will now play at Potsdam and will have time there to test his knee under competition conditions. This is a triple win-win-win situation. For Valter, he gets match practice. For Potsdam, because we get one more player and also for the Foxes because Valter can get back into shape without stress. So that next year he can fulfill the performance expectations we have of him with the Foxes. This is not a punishment, but a great opportunity for him.”

Chrintz was on the move back to Sweden

Chrintz still has a contract with the Berliners until 2026 and could have gone back to Sweden to get fit. Hanning: “We consulted with Valter for a long time. But I would rather he stay in our gaming systems, i.e. with me. He can get closer to Potsdam step by step over the last ten games and then attack the Füchse next year.”

Chrintz: “Everything was okay with my knee for a long time, I was supposed to play again in the European Cup on December 5th, but then I injured the back of the thigh on my right leg and unfortunately shot the thigh again during a strength test a week later.”

Now he is finally returning. Instead of the green Füchse jersey, the left-hander wears a red eagle shirt from VfL Potsdam…
