As of: March 22, 2024 8:23 p.m

On the 17th matchday of the women’s football Bundesliga, TSG Hoffenheim was a guest at SC Freiburg. TSG deservedly won the duel 4-2.

Marta Cazalla gave TSG the lead with her goals in the 15th and 48th minutes. Melissa Kössler (55th) and Nicole Billa (80th) also scored for TSG. Lisa Karl (68th) and Leela Egli (79th) scored the Freiburg goals. With the win, Hoffenheim consolidated third place in the table, while SC Freiburg is in eighth place.

TSG Hoffenheim scores, Freiburg too harmless

With last weekend’s victory in the top game against VfL Wolfsburg, the TSG Hoffenheim footballers confirmed their good run. They hadn’t lost in the league since the end of January and it stayed that way after the game in Freiburg. The Hoffenheim team started the game a little more powerfully than the hosts. The first shot on goal of the game from TSG striker and ex-Freiburg player Ereleta Memeti narrowly missed the Freiburg goal. However, just a minute later, the Breisgau women lost the ball in the build-up game and TSG played a corner. Marta Cazalla headed in to take the lead.

After 25 minutes, out of consideration for the players who are fasting during Ramadan, there was a short break during which the players could drink or eat an energy bar. Freiburg remained too safe until the break. Instead, Stephan Lerch’s team still had the opportunity to extend their lead. Paulina Krumbiegel served Melissa Kössler with a nice deep pass. Freiburg’s goalkeeper was able to block Kössler’s shot with her foot.

Five goals after the break

Shortly after the break, the Kraichgau women increased. Jana Feldkamp took a corner again and the Spaniard Cazalla headed the ball into the goal (48th). Shortly afterwards, SC Freiburg had a good free kick opportunity, but Hasret Kayikci circled the ball just over the goal. On the other hand, Mara Alber passed to Melissa Kössler. The 24-year-old beat Janina Minge, went around Rafaela Borggräfe and made it 3-0 for TSG (55th). In the 68th minute, Martina Tufeković fended off a shot on goal by Freiburg captain Kayikci, but Lisa Karl got the ball at her feet and reduced the score to 1:3. Substitute 17-year-old Leela Egli briefly made things exciting again with her goal to make it 2-3 (79′). Directly in return, Nicole Billa, who is leaving TSG at the end of the season, ensured the final score was 2:4.

The Kraichgauer women are in third place in the table with 33 points. The gap to fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt is four points. Freiburg (21 points) slipped to eighth place. On the next match day, SC Freiburg will host second-placed Wolfsburg (March 13). TSG Hoffenheim will play against 1. FC Köln (April 15).
