Demonstration of April 25

The march recovers the participation lost during the years of government of the PSPV, Compromís and Unides Podemos

Valencia”Hey, how long!” “Yes, it’s just that I haven’t come for many years, probably since 2015 [any d’inici del govern de la coalició progressista formada pel PSPV, Compromís i Unides Podem]”. This has been one of the most repeated conversations in the traditional demonstration of April 25 in Valencia, which eight years later has returned to be multitudinous and has gathered 12,000 people according to the calculations of the Cultural Action of the Valencian Country (ACPV) , organization convening the march together with the formations of the pro-independence left.

In a festive atmosphere, in which the presence of many citizens wearing the green shirts of the campaign stood out The tongue is not touched of the Platform for the Language and the posters with the same slogan of the initiative -Nos, the attendees showed their concern for the future of the Valencian language and its own culture when the first year of government of the PP and Vox is almost complete.

The slogans in defense of Catalan and self-government have been accompanied by the usual demands of the participating organizations. “Valencian country, free and sovereign”, shouted the militants of Compromís. “Neither Spain, nor France, Catalan countries”, claimed the supporters of Esquerra Republicana del País Valenciana or the CUP, which along with Esquerra Unida and Podemos were the political formations present at the march. Social and civic organizations such as Escola Valenciana or Societat Choral el Micalet, trade unions such as COS or Intersindical and student associations such as BEA or SEPC have also attended.

“Today marks the beginning of a mobilization that will be continuous against the anti-Valencian policies of the Popular Party and Vox,” said the president of ACPV, Anna Oliver. “We don’t come to celebrate a defeat, we come to celebrate that after more than 300 years we continue to resist”, added the spokesman for Compromís, Joan Baldoví, who has promised to fight the laws of plurilingualism, of “concord” or of the public media of the new council “The fight will be parliamentary, in the street and judicially”, he explained.

“Today it is more important than ever to be here. Faced with the attacks on the Valencian people. From Esquerra Republicana and the government of Catalonia we will always fight against the extreme right. We have reacted when there has been censorship [amb la no celebració del centenari del naixement del poeta Vicent Andrés Estellés] or when the Guillem Agulló i Salvador award has been abolished [que ara atorgarà la Generalitat de Catalunya]”, emphasized Laura Vilagrà, vice-president of the Catalan executive.

The CUP candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Laia Estrada, has expressed herself in the same vein, denouncing the increase in violence against progressive citizens. “The far right targets the institutions and fascism attacks in the street while the police do nothing”, he lamented in reference to the recent group attack carried out in Castelló de la Plana in which a 32-year-old man was seriously injured years that he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for several days.

“We must mobilize against the attacks on the Valencian from the PP, which wants to conflict him, and from Vox, which directly wants to eliminate him. And for that we need people. We hope to be more and more”, concluded Toni Royo, spokesperson for Platform for the Language.
