No other topic is currently as hotly and controversially discussed in the tennis world as a possible Saudi Arabia expansion. And new ideas always come to light. The Swiss Stan Wawrinka can only laugh about it.

Sometimes you don’t need big words to make your own opinion very clear. Stan Wawrinka has now also acted according to this principle and shared his opinion on the idea of a “Premium Tour”. With a simple one word message. The three-time Grand Slam champion responded to an article about the Premium Tour with a “LOL” (laugh out loud).
Wawrinka speaks from the hearts of the fans
There has been a lot of speculation lately that the four Grand Slam tournaments will join forces with the Saudis and create a new elite tour. This tour could then include 16 events per year. Under this proposal, the Premium Tour would consist of four Grand Slams, 10 Masters tournaments, the men’s and women’s finals and a team competition. But in this scenario, the ATP and WTA tournaments in the 500 and 250 categories would be virtually eliminated.
On Wednesday, journalist Jon Wertheim (“Sports Illustrated”) published an interview with Lew Sherr, CEO of the US association, in which they talk about the motivations and goals of the Premium Tour and discuss the advantages of such an idea.
After reading it we know: Stan Wawrinka is not impressed. Like most other tennis fans, probably not.
