Soriano’s Laia González scores clutch triple to lead Semillas Adolfo Martínez to victory

There were only 15 seconds left when Soriano’s Laia González scored the triple that allowed Semillas Adolfo Martínez to defeat Cochinillo Segoviano (54-50) in the eighteenth and final day of the regular league in the First Women’s Division. Laura Marina would convert a free throw with 7 seconds left in a clash that had already been sentenced and that confirms the excellent moment that the CSB women’s squad is going through, which has added four wins in the last five days, in the which only suffered one defeat (in extra time and by the minimum) against the University of Salamanca. The Sorianas have won five of the eight games in the second round, in which the other two teams they fell to were the leader, Origen-UVA, and the third, Club Baloncesto Villamuriel de Palencia.

Semillas Adolfo Martínez led 30-23 at halftime, recovered from a bad third quarter (2-16) and overcame a 32-39 deficit in the last ten minutes. The success that the Soriana team has lacked on other occasions appeared at the moment of truth in a duel in which the counterattack and the determination to be aggressive against the rival goal made a difference in favor of the local team. Initially, Laura Marina, Laura González and Jennifer Verde from Soriano, Irati Luzuriaga from Alava and Clara Pérez from Burgos played. Also participating in the contest were Frenchwoman Margot Legat, Elena Sáez from Burgos, Ana Álvarez from Cáceres, María Ledesma, Paula Vallejo, Laia González and Naia Gómez from Cantabria. Semillas Adolfo Martínez, with eight wins and eight losses, has concluded the regular league in sixth place in the qualifying table.

In the second phase of the First Women’s Division, Club Soria Baloncesto will choose to finish in thirteenth place among the twenty-eight teams that make up Group A. Their rivals will be the fifth and sixth of the other two subgroups of the regular league: Basket Eloy Villanueva from Santander (Cantabria), Fodeba from Gijón (Asturias), Esclavas from La Coruña and Peleteiro Hyupersa from Santiago de Compostela (Pontevedra). In fifth place in the Semillas subgroup Adolfo Martínez has finished the University of Burgos Babieca.
