Desperation in Gaza: Jordanian Air Force Airdrops Aid with US Support, but Food Scarcity Continues

In the north of the Gaza Strip, people pounced on food packages dropped by the Jordanian Air Force – with US support – on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

The Sky News broadcaster has published aerial footage of the aid deliveries.

Aid organizations and local Palestinians point out that current aid deliveries are far from enough to combat the ongoing famine.

A man trying to get food explained: “Hunger is killing us. They come and drop relief supplies, then we have martyrs and injured people. We cannot keep our children alive. I speak to you as someone who has seven children and cannot feed his children.”

The “martyrs” referred to by the man are the people who were hit while dropping aid supplies whose parachutes had not opened.

The United States, Jordan and other countries have again airdropped aid in recent days, but international aid groups say only a fraction of the aid needed can be delivered by air.

The new push for more aid came on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims.

31,000 dead in Gaza since the war began

Israel declared war on Hamas in Gaza on October 7 after Hamas militants attacked southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 250 hostages.

According to Hamas, more than 31,000 people have been killed in Gaza since then. The coastal strip not only lacks food, but also water and fuel. In addition, almost all of the apartments were destroyed by Israeli bombing raids.
