The North squad defeated the South, 14-10, in the 2023 West Tennessee All-Star football game at Cavalier Stadium in Crockett County.

Derek Carr is leaving Milan football after two seasons to become coach of Lexington.

Carr replaces Bryant Hollingsworth, who stepped down in January after 16 seasons.

Henderson County Schools announced Carr’s hiring in a social media post on Friday.

Milan was 18-7 in under Carr’s direction. The Bulldogs went 9-3 in 2023 and advanced to the Class 2A second round. Milan advanced to the quarterfinal the season before.

Carr was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach in 2022 to replace Carl Diffee. Carr also served as the Bulldogs’ softball coach after joining the football staff in 2020. He’s also spent time coaching at Temple, Tennessee Tech and South Side.

Carr was a high school quarterback at McKenzie and went on to play at UT Martin (2008-12).

While at UT Martin, Carr became one of the most accomplished players in the Ohio Valley Conference, as he ranks in the top 10 in passing touchdowns, passing yards, completions and total offense.

Carr is a member of the Tennessee Martin athletics Hall of Fame and the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame.
