A day after finding their new franchise quarterback in the figure of Drake Maye, the New England Patriots have decided to draft a wide receiver. The player chosen with the 37th overall pick in the 2024 Draft was Ja’Lynn Polk of the Washington Huskies. The Pats had the 34th, but made a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers to get the 37th and the 110th by also giving up the 137th.
The wide receiver spent the last three years in Washington, but shined in 2023 after catching 69 of the 108 passes thrown his way for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns. One of Polk’s advantages is that he can line up both outside the numbers and in the slot.
The Huskies graduate is good at fighting for the ball despite the defense and his height (6-2) will be an advantage inside the red zone when Maye looks for him. His production was not as high as he had to share Michael Penix Jr.’s passes with Rome Odunze.
During the Scouting Combine, Polk excelled in both the vertical and horizontal jump tests, recording 37.5 inches and 10′9″ respectively. However, he had the fifth-worst time in the 40-yard dash after clocking 4.52 seconds.
