Thanks to Ernando’s two saves, Indonesia managed to win the penalty shootout 11-10 and advance to the semifinals, but Ernando’s actions sparked controversy.

“I didn’t expect this to be controversial. I was very excited after stopping the penalty shootout,” explained Ernando.

Ernando also said that the dance in question was inspired by Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa).

“I once faced Martinez in an international match against Argentina. I was very inspired by him and I studied and learned a lot. As a result, a dance like that emerged,” he added.

Martinez made a fine save in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup final penalty shootout against France, but has since been criticized several times for his dance moves which were deemed indecent.
