DFB women get feasible draws for European Championship qualification

The German footballers got lucky in qualifying for the 2025 European Championships in Switzerland. Interim national coach Horst Hrubesch’s team will play in Group 4 against Austria, Iceland and Poland. This was the result of the UEFA draw on Tuesday in Nyon, Switzerland.

The DFB women were spared as opponents European champions and World Cup runners-up England as well as the traditionally strong Swedes and Danes. There are six match days between April and July – before the German national team competes at the Olympic Games in Paris (July 26th to August 11th).

Germany lost the European Championship final

In addition to the host team from Switzerland, the two best teams in each group in League A will qualify for the European Championship finals from July 2nd to 27th, 2025. The league affiliation was determined by the Nations League. The remaining seven European Championship places will be decided by two playoff rounds in the fall.

The world champions from Spain will face Denmark, Belgium and the Czech Republic in Group 2. England, France, Sweden and Ireland meet in what is probably the strongest Group 3. The Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Finland play in Group 1.

The German women beat the Austrians 2-0 in the quarterfinals at the European Championships in England in 2022. The Hrubsch team won twice against Iceland in the Nations League last year. The DFB team is a record European champion with eight titles and only lost to the hosts in the final of the 2022 European Championships in England. After the botched 2023 World Cup in Australia, captain Alexandra Popp and Co. first have to prove themselves internationally again. The opponents for the Olympics will be drawn on March 20th in Paris.
