Jelgava has two titles and seven medals in the Latvian U-16 athletics indoor championship
The Latvian Athletics U-16 indoor championship was held in the Riga Daugava athletics arena. Athletics athletes of the Jelgava Children and Youth Sports School (BJSS) won two championship titles and seven medals.
Athletes competed in 24 disciplines during two days, and in 13 of them the championship title was won with the best result of the season. Jelgava BJSS athletes won two championship titles, two silver and three bronze medals in this championship.
Jelgava BJSS girls’ team – Emilija Braun, Emilija Viksna, Alice Blaua and Anastasija Fomenko – became champions in the 4×200 meter relay. They were the fastest in the 12-team competition and covered the distance in 1:44.56 minutes. This achievement of our girls is the most valuable result of the competition. The second champion’s title belongs to Alisa Blau in the 60-meter hurdle race, where she showed a result of 8.65 seconds. It should be noted that in the preliminaries, Alice covered the distance in 8.54 seconds, which is her personal record. 31 participants competed in this distance, and another Jelgava BJSS athlete Anastasija Fomenko, who won 3rd place with a result of 8.87 seconds, showed fierce competition to Alice. She, like Alice, set a new personal record in the preliminary race – 8.80 seconds. Anastasia also won 2nd place in the triple jump in the competition of 17 athletes with a result of 11.17 meters, which is the athlete’s personal record. Alice, on the other hand, won another 3rd place in the high jump, overcoming a height of 1.60 meters and setting a new personal record. 16 participants competed in the high jump discipline.
Emilija Viksna won the 2nd place in the 800 meter race, finishing after 2:21.74 minutes in the competition of 27 participants. On the other hand, Emilija Braun won the 3rd place in the 400 meter race in the competition of 35 participants with a result of 58.65 seconds.
All medalists are students of coach Alona Fomenko.
