DFB from Adidas to Nike: Who invented it?

Get undressed! Adidas’ days as a supplier to the German Football Association are numbered. Image: Picture Alliance

Politicians would have liked more local patriotism, the fans are angry: the DFB’s change from Adidas to Nike is agitating people. Oh, how cloudy the memories are in this German football romance.

When the German Football Association switches from Adidas to Nike, even politics gets out of hand, from Ramelow to the Rhine. Robert Habeck would also have liked more local patriotism. One eagle, three stripes. Was like that, is like that, should stay like that. Apparently different rules should apply in football than in other German business sectors, where Qatar is investing in the German automotive industry and Cosco from China is investing in the port of Hamburg. But in sports, are Americans a problem?

For some fans, the force of outrage comes from a strong feeling: nostalgia. This is legitimate – for fans. And truly, no story of the economic miracle is more miraculous than that of the heroes of Bern and their kit manager Adi Dassler, his screw-on cleats, the incessant rain and Bozsik’s loss of the ball to Schäfer. We are who again. Legendary.
