Change? De Ligt becomes clear

Matthijs de Ligt speaks openly about his role at FC Bayern. The Dutchman is cool with speculation about changes.

Is Matthijs de Ligt one of FC Bayern’s candidates for a change? If the Dutchman has his way, his time in Munich should not come to an early end. In an interview with the Dutch portal Voetbal International, the central defender has no thoughts of leaving the club.

He now emphasized that he is calm about rumors about a possible farewell. “This mainly has to do with external expectations. If I don’t play, the impression is immediately given that I’m dissatisfied and want to leave,” explained de Ligt.

“Of course there were games I would have liked to have played in, but I really have no reason to complain. I’m still having a great time at Bayern Munich and have been playing in every game recently. I never let myself be fooled by rumors, I stick to myself and know what the reality is.”

De Ligt fought his way back to his regular place

The Dutchman had struggled with injuries several times this season, but was not always taken into account by FCB coach Thomas Tuchel when he was fit. Most recently, the 24-year-old fought his way back into the regular formation and, together with Eric Dier, formed the central defender team for the German record champions.

“I started ten of the last twelve games. And I feel like I’m getting fitter and better, which is a good feeling,” said de Ligt, adding: “I started the season with an injury, which is always very annoying. It took me a while to get back and then I was injured again. That’s why I missed a lot of games and at a club like FC Bayern you have a lot of competition.”

As the Dutchman continued, there are “so many top players in the Bayern squad who are all ready to play. If you’re out with an injury and are fit again, it’s not a given that you’ll be back in the starting line-up straight away. When the team is running and the results are good, you just have to be patient again and wait for your chance.”

The 43-time national player is contractually bound in Munich until 2027.
