The Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 driver broke the previous pole record by 1.2 seconds ahead of Ivan Ortolá and José Antonio Rueda, Collin Veijer had a difficult qualifying and finished tenth.

Qualifying for the Moto3 class started at the Lusail International Circuit on Saturday at 4:50 PM local time, 2:50 PM Dutch time. David Almansa was out due to a broken wrist following a major crash on Friday.

    Q2
The eighteen fastest Moto3 riders then battled it out for the first pole position of 2024. In the first run, Ivan Ortolá drove a very impressive lap of 2’02.541, making him half a second faster than the competition. Collin Veijer seemed to have a problem because he came in straight away, then had to set his lap times alone because the rest of the drivers were in a group on the other side of the circuit.

Daniel Holgado saved his best lap for last and finished under Ortolá’s time with a 2’02.276. He thus broke the existing lap record – from last November – by more than 1.2 seconds. It indicated that the Pirelli tires are clearly faster than the Dunlop tires. José Antonio Rueda clocked the third fastest time with Adrián Fernández in fourth place, meaning the top four consisted entirely of Spaniards. Veijer managed to achieve the fifth fastest time during the session, but ultimately fell back to tenth position.

    Result Q2:

  • Daniel Holgado – GASGAS | 2’02,276
  • Ivan Ortolá – KTM | +0.265
  • José Antonio Rueda – KTM | +0.320
  • Adrián Fernández – Honda | +0.356
  • Matteo Bertelle – Honda | +0.396
  • 10. Collin Veijer – Husqvarna | +0,973
