Carlos Alcaraz continues to stalk Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings

MADRID, March 18 (EUROPA PRESS) – The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz remains at number two in the ATP world ranking for another week, a position he managed to defend in the first Masters 1000 of the season, in Indian Wells ( United States), where he defended the 2023 title.

The Murcian made sure to continue in that position by defeating the Italian Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the event, who threatened him from his third place, and now has 8,805 points, less than 1,000 (920) behind the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who continues as number one in the world and who will not compete in Miami, the scene of the second Masters 1,000 of the campaign and where he is not defending points since he was not there last year either.

The one from El Palmar will have to defend points in Florida for the semifinals reached last year, where he fell precisely against Sinner, later runner-up against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who closes the ‘Top 4’ after Indian Wells, where he lost against Alcaraz in the final.

The ‘Top 10’ of the world ranking does not have many new features except for the promotion of the German Alexander Zverev to fifth position to the detriment of the Russian Andrey Rublev and the Norwegian Casper Ruud to the eighth position instead of the Polish Hubert Hurkacz. Of the rest of the ‘Armada’, Alejandro Davidovich from Malaga loses five places and remains 28th to be the other representative within the 50 best in the world.

For her part, in the WTA classification, the Polish Iga Swiatek consolidated her lead with her title in Indian Wells against the Greek Maria Sakkari and remains ahead of the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the American Coco Gauff and the Kazakh Elena Rybakina. The best Spanish is Sara Sorribes in 52nd place.
