Magic March Towards Playoffs as Nets Likely to Miss Out; Denver Dominates in the West

While the Orlando Magic continue to march confidently towards the playoffs, the Nets will probably have to say goodbye to the postseason for good. Meanwhile, the top game in the West goes to Denver.

Charlotte Hornets @ Orlando Magic 92:112

The Orlando Magic comfortably won their home game against the Charlotte Hornets 112:92 and secured at least a place in the play-in tournament.

At halftime it was already 67:32 for the Magic, so the rotation machine was on. Franz Wagner only played 24 minutes (eleven points), Paolo Banchero played 26 (13 points). Moritz Wagner scored a good 13 points in 14 minutes.

The best scorer was Cole Anthony with 21 points off the bench. There were just as many for Brandon Miller from the Hornets, whose season ended long ago.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Brooklyn Nets 104:91

Dennis Schröder and his Brooklyn Nets have suffered the next serious setback in the fight for the postseason in the NBA. The Nets lost their fourth game in a row at 91:104 against the New Orleans Pelicans and are eleventh in the East, four wins behind the Atlanta Hawks (30:38), who hold the last place for the play-in tournament.

As a starter, Schröder had an unremarkable twelve points and three rebounds; the best thrower was Cam Thomas (25 points). The outstanding man for the Pelicans, who are on course for the playoffs as fifth in the West, was Zion Williamson with 28 points.

Dallas Mavericks @ San Antonio Spurs 113:107

That doesn’t apply to the Dallas Mavericks, but the Texans are seventh in the West and are still fully involved in the fight for the postseason. By beating the San Antonio Spurs 113:107, the Mavericks increased the pressure on the Sacramento Kings, who are only slightly ahead of them in sixth place in the playoffs.

Maxi Kleber contributed five points to the victory, the star duo Kyrie Irving (28) and Luka Doncic (18) decided the game in favor of the Texans – at the Spurs, “Alien” Victor Wembanyama remained pale with twelve points. Tre Jones was the Spurs’ top scorer with 22 points.

Denver Nuggets @ Minnesota Timberwolves 115:112

In the top game of the evening, the Denver Nuggets, led by superstar Nikola Jokic, prevailed over the Minnesota Timberwolves 115:112.

The Serbian Jokic impressively took control of the game with 38 points and 16 rebounds, and the defending champions are now one win ahead of Minnesota in second place in the West. Michael Porter Jr. contributed 26 points.

Anthony Edwards also delivered a top performance with 30 points and eight rebounds and assists, but the hole the Wolves had dug at halftime (15-point deficit) was too big in the end.

Houston Rockets @ Washington Wizards 137:114

The Houston Rockets confidently prevailed over the weak Washington Wizards 137:114 and maintained their hope of direct playoff places.

In the absence of Alperen Sengün, who is still injured, Jalen Green was unstoppable, scoring 42 points and ten rebounds. Jabari Smith (18 points, 14 rebounds) and Amen Thompson (25 points, ten rebounds) were also able to celebrate a double-double.

For the Wizards, the points were spread across many shoulders, eight of the nine players used had double-digit points. Three players shared the title of top scorer with 16 points, but none stood out.
