Honoring European Judo Officials: A Recognition of Service and Dedication

As part of the third and final individual competition day of the European Judo Championships in Zagreb, six top European officials were honored for their services before the final fights. Among those honored was ÖJV Vice President Albert “Ali” Gmeiner, who has been working on the sports commission for the European Judo Union (EJU) for years: The Salzburg native has been at the forefront of the ÖJV board for more than two decades Over the last 30 years he built the legendary “Olympic Training Camp” in his native Mittersill. The OTC Mittersill is considered the number one international training camp and attracts top judoka from all over the world year after year. The honor was carried out by EJU President Laszlo Toth, Vice Presidents Otto Kneitinger, Sergei Aschwanden and General Secretary (and ÖJV President) Martin Poiger.

In addition to Albert Gmeiner, Croatia’s association president and European Championship organizer Sanda Corak, IJF and EJU honorary member Balint Putnik and the former EJU vice-president Michal Vachun were also honored.
