On Friday, the Spanish clay court king was a guest on IGUALES, the official podcast of the Madrid Open, and hinted that he and his Spanish colleague Carlos Alcaraz (20) could compete in Paris as a duo.

Nadal: “Carlos doesn’t have to ask me anything, if everything goes well, we will play. It’s very exciting for me too. If I’m not mistaken, it is for him too.”

Nadal continued: “I think it would be good for the Spanish team too, so we’ll see how it goes. I hope I’m good enough to be a good partner for him, and I’m sure he will be for me.”

Do fans even see the two of them in a duet before the Olympics?

Nadal: “It would be great to play a tournament or two before the Olympics to prepare and get comfortable on the court.”

Alcaraz had repeatedly emphasized in the past that he could absolutely imagine a doubles match with his idol Nadal.

Alcaraz: “It would be a dream. Not just winning a medal in singles or doubles, but simply the experience of playing doubles with my idol. I would particularly like to create this memory with him.”

One thing is clear: With Nadal, tennis youngster Alcaraz would have a very experienced Olympic player at his side. The Mallorcan has already won two Olympic medals. In 2008 in Beijing he won Olympic gold in the individual event. In 2016 he won gold in doubles together with Marc Lopez.

The two former world number one are currently playing at the Madrid Open. Nadal has to play Alex de Minaur (25) in the second round on Saturday afternoon.
