Two board legends are calling it quits: President Rolf Königs (82), in office for exactly 20 years, and Hans Meyer (81), who was appointed as a member of the executive board in 2011!

The current deputy, Rainer Bonhof (71), who has put together a new team, will become president. Stephan Stegemann (60) from the previous executive committee is still there. The new additions include the former Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia (from 2010 to 2017) and noble fan Hannelore Kraft (62) and Roger Brandts (58), owner of the Gladbach fashion company “Fynch and Hatton”.
Königs himself had suggested Bonhof to the supervisory board as his successor for the presidency. “He has been Borussia for more than 50 years, vice president since 2008 and a good and right choice for this position.”

Both Königs and Meyer have recently barely been present in public. Both were also missing from the club’s traditional Christmas party in Borussia Park and from the annual kick-off dinner with the media.
BÌLD knows that both Königs and Meyer were in poor health. Both have recovered well from their operations, and Königs was back in the stadium for the last two home games. However, they haven’t been seen at away games for a long time – that was different until last year.
