Cuadrado’s Controversial Celebration: From Juventus Hero to Inter Champion

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado did not go unnoticed in Inter’s celebration as the new champion of Italian Serie A. The Colombian, who arrived this season from Juventus, was dancing on the bus during the ride through the streets of Milan and also spoke to the thousands of people who came to the Piazza del Duomo.

His speech was applauded by the Neroazzurro fans, however, it did not go down so well in Turin, where he was branded as a traitor for a video that went viral on social networks.

After Cuadrado’s words of gratitude, Inter fans began to sing “he who doesn’t jump is Bianconero”, referring to the colors of their eternal rival.

The Colombian did not resist the fans’ chant and began to jump while waving his hands from the balcony. This attitude struck right at the heart of Juventus fans, who filled X’s personal accounts and his Instagram accounts with insults.

Cuadrado spent eight seasons at Juventus and even managed to wear the captain’s ribbon in the last year before his goodbye. As a result of his career as a Bianconero, Inter resisted his signing, which had to be confirmed in the midst of negotiations with the main team to avoid altercations in front of the club’s offices.

Almost a year after those events, the equation has changed from heaven to earth. The Interistas forgave him for the commitment he showed on the field of play, at the same time that he left the affections of the Juventus fans, where today they do not even want to see him.

“Square jumping to ‘who doesn’t jump is black and white?’ I wouldn’t like to be in his situation, but it’s part of football,” declared Andrea Barzagli, the Colombian’s former teammate at Juventus, during an appearance on DAZN in which he spoke about the crazy celebrations that took place in Milan.

Beyond the affection that Cuadrado had for his former team, it is worth remembering that his departure from Juventus was not in the best way. The man born in Necoclí (Antioquia) had the desire to continue on the team and even raised the possibility of lowering his salary, but the management chose to remove him without any explanation.

Juan Guillermo was very hurt by that decision. His revenge was to become champion with the eternal rival who reached 20 titles and therefore received the second star on his shield.

The Colombian, in fact, had another gesture that the Juventus fans did not like. During the ride on the bus with the scudetto in hand, he wore glasses with two stars that were thrown to him from the street and the photos of the moment were condemned by the most radical fans of the most times Italian soccer champion.

Cuadrado leaves Inter

The truth is that Cuadrado’s history as a neroazzurro has its days numbered. At Inter they are not considering renewing him for next season and they will let him leave as a free agent when the current campaign ends.

“Juan Cuadrado will leave Inter as a free agent at the end of the season,” renowned journalist Nicolo Schira reported a few days ago.

For now it is not known what destination the 35-year-old player’s career is heading towards. Returning to Colombia is a possibility that he has not yet considered, because before landing at Inter he had offers from Saudi Arabia that he could now consider.

The final decision will be made throughout this month, while he plays his last games with Inter hoping to receive the call from Néstor Lorenzo for the Copa América.
