The Spanish trial driver Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Team) admitted about the Dakar Rally that “as an adventure” he would like to participate, but stressed that “there is a lot of risk” and he has competitors of “a very high level”, after having received this Wednesday the BRAND Legend award.
“As an adventure I would like it, but there is a lot of risk and now there is a very high level. Modalities like Hard Enduro are much closer to trial, but my goal is to stay in this sport,” said Bou after collecting the highest recognition given by the sports newspaper from Unidad Editorial, during an event that featured Manuel Casado, president of the Royal Spanish Motorcycle Federation (RFME).
“We want to reach 40 years with 40 titles,” Takahisa Fujinami later confessed. “No one expected him to win so much, not even himself,” the former Japanese driver said about his teammate: “Toni always wants more,” Fujinami added during the award event for Bou.
The director of ‘Marca’, Juan Ignacio Gallardo, and the newspaper’s Business Director, Gema Monjas, led a ceremony that was held at the Repsol Campus in Madrid. Among the guests, Fujinami himself, current head of the Repsol Honda Team, stood out.
During the gala, hosted by journalist Miguel Sanz, Bou stated that “it is no coincidence that there are such high-level athletes” in Spanish motorcycling. Likewise, he referred to the change in regulations in his modality: “The pilot makes the difference. However, we hope that, by returning to a regulation that is understood, we can continue growing.”
“The perseverance, passion and psychological strength that Bou has is what makes him succeed. He is a magnificent exponent of Spanish sport,” said Manuel Casado, president of the RFME. “He is Superman. He doesn’t fly with a cape, but he does it with a motorcycle,” he added.
Meanwhile, Repsol’s Director of Communication and Brand, Marcos Fraga, stressed that Bou “is and feels unbeatable.” “He is a very competitive person, who loves his sport and takes his passion to the extreme,” said Fraga before Gallardo’s speech to the winner.
“You are not only the best in the world, but in history. Your bar is unmatched and unattainable for any other human being. You are the king of trials, number one, and you have turned the world championship into a vee of victory with a role of absolute winner,” Gallardo concluded.
