Arrasate will not coach Osasuna next season

“I know that whoever leaves Osasuna loses,” said the Rojillo coach in his press conference

MADRID, 26 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Biscayan coach Jagoba Arrasate will not renew his contract with CA Osasuna on June 30, so he will not coach the rojillo team next season 2024/25, as he himself announced this Tuesday during a press conference with the club president , Luis Sabalza, and the sports director, Braulio Vázquez.

“I have made the decision not to renew with Osasuna. It is a complicated decision, as you can imagine. But I am calm, I am at peace with myself and this is not a farewell. In the end we are immersed in a competition, there are nine games left, we are preparing Saturday’s game and that will come,” said Arrasate in his appearance from the Tajonar Sports City.

Arrasate arrived in Pamplona in the 2018/19 season, when Osasuna was playing in the Second Division and with which they were promoted to the First Division. In the 2022/23 season he qualified for the Copa del Rey final after 18 years, and in which he lost (2-1) to Real Madrid.

In addition, Osasuna finished seventh and qualified to play in a European competition 16 years later, in this case the Conference League. In January 2024 he played the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, where he lost in the semifinals (2-0) against FC Barcelona.

“I understand that it is news after six years, more if possible, but I don’t have that conviction that I had before. And if I am not completely convinced, it is difficult for me to be happy; if I am not happy, it is difficult for me to get the best out of myself ; if I don’t get the best out of myself, it’s difficult for me to get the best out of the team… So I think the time has come. Thank everyone, but especially Luis [Sabalza]”Arrasate said.

“Six years ago we were all worse, I was a Second Division coach, Braulio was a Second Division sports director, the president was doing well but he was in the Second Division… And after six years I think we are all in a better disposition and we have also been able to enjoy it,” he stressed.

“The year has certainly been complicated, with a very big disappointment at the beginning of the season. A team where we wanted to give continuity to things we did last year, and over time we realized that we couldn’t, we have had to change of a plan, of a drawing, of a scheme, of many things. So, you value everything a little and I have a priority,” he alluded to the setback in the Conference League.

“It’s just like that, as it is, I am obsessed with finishing well at Osasuna. Osasuna has made me happy, it has made me a better coach, a better person, it is the most beautiful stage of my life. Therefore, I don’t know the legacy that I leave, but Osasuna will always be marked in my heart. People talk about planning, signings, temporality… We have not gone to the second screen,” Arrasate admitted.

“The first screen is that Braulio tells me: ‘I want you to continue, we talked a little about this…’ But we haven’t moved on to the second screen, we haven’t even talked about players. It’s my decision. Neither did Bittor. [Alkiza] He has tried to convince me because in the end he understands the situation and supports me. It is not a matter of convincing or not convincing, it is a very personal situation of mine and when I explain it, I know that there is no turning back. It is a super-meditated and super-thought-out decision of course, but the decision was not made yesterday,” she continued in the circle.

“I KNOW THAT HE WHO LEAVES OSASUNA LOSES”

“More or less you think about it, you give it shape, pros and cons… I know that whoever leaves Osasuna loses. What can I tell you about my family, here I have almost everything and it is not easy. “But I have to be honest with myself and I think the time has come; and I think if the time has come now, there may be another time too,” he added.

“Therefore I am guided a little by that knowing that I leave a lot of things here. I am delighted here. And I know that I am not going to be anywhere like here. I am not going to have a fan like that. I am not going to have a locker room like that. Yes, I already know. But in the end I have to think about it coldly and, if I am not convinced, I think I have to be honest with myself and with all parties, that it is best not to stretch the gum,” he insisted.

Then he analyzed his future: “This decision is independent of what may happen later. Those who know me already know that I have no ambition to go to a team or win a title or try a league. It has nothing to do with that. “It’s more of a reflection that I make about the moment I’m in and how I see the future and I think it’s the best for me. So, I’m not thinking about that, like I don’t have to train next year.”

“If I am sitting here after six years, beyond the trust of the president and Braulio, it is because of the players. The players have shown in these six years ability, first, and then also on a personal level, well, what are they like. We have a unique dressing room and I know what they are like, how they have trained today, how they are going to train tomorrow and we are going to try to finish as high as possible. That is not a problem,” he warned.

“The problem would have been to extend this, since lately there was also a lot of talk about many things. With this we close those rumors and we focus on these last nine games that we still have many things to say, to do and I hope we finish in the best way because It is also important to me. I understand that the fans may be disappointed or sad, as we all are a little bit, and what am I going to say to the fans, thank them and above all that we are going to try to finish in the best possible way.” Arrasate argued.

“Everything has a beginning and an end. Osasuna is so big that it is more than 100 years old and has had many good coaches, good presidents, sports directors… This is going to continue and I can’t say anything to the fans other than to give them Thank you,” he repeated. “I wouldn’t forgive myself for ending up badly in Osasuna, it’s just that I don’t forgive myself for everything I’ve experienced, for how beautiful this has been,” he stressed.

“Can I be conservative? Well, maybe, I don’t know. But it is my priority to finish in Osasuna as I am going to finish now, in the best possible way and to be calm and proud. And every time I see Osasuna, I will have a smile “In six years I have not picked up the phone from anyone and from now on I understand that my agents will start working too. But I am very focused on finishing well with Osasuna, which is also what I have to do and what I feel,” Arrasate concluded. .
