A New Chapter: The Dissolution of the Bad Kötzting Tennis Club and Its Future as a Department of the Gymnastics Club

“This is a historic meeting, but today is not a positive day for me,” said Wolfgang Höring, chairman of the Bad Kötzting tennis club, as he opened the club’s final meeting in the clubhouse in front of 16 participants. Only one point was on the agenda: “Dissolution of the tennis club”.

And with 15 votes (with honorary chairman Dr. Hans-Wolfgang Dittrich abstaining), the fate of the traditional club, which fielded teams up to Bayernliga level in the 80s and 90s of the 20th century, was sealed.

New perspectives

However, tennis in Bad Kötzting does not fall into a black hole with this decision, but the decision of the 15 members on Wednesday is intended to open up completely new perspectives by taking over as a department of the 1,300-member Bad Kötzting gymnastics club.

The main goal is to rejuvenate the club

Above all, the rejuvenation of the club, which the TC leadership has been trying to achieve for years without success and which should lead to the registration of new teams for association games, is the main goal of the future department, as TV chairwoman Carola Höcherl-Neubauer explained as a participant in the dissolution meeting. During a trial training session on the TC pitches in 2023, a number of young talents tried their hand at the sport, which raised hopes of a revival.

Wolfgang Höring announced that the modalities of the club’s dissolution will first be discussed, which have already been agreed with Mayor Markus Hofmann and the city. The tennis club has debited the membership fees until June 30, 2024 and will also take over the spring ordering of the courts and their maintenance until the end of June in terms of work and costs. Details of the transfer of tennis to a TV department will be discussed in detail at a meeting next Wednesday. This is actually not new territory for everyone involved, since the “white sport” had flourished in a department of the gymnastics club since it was founded in the 1960s, before the independent tennis club was finally founded under the leadership of Werner Kretschmer.

A special feature that could now make it easier to take over as a TV department is the fact that around half of the TC members also belong to the gymnastics club. The TV management would therefore like to offer non-TV members membership in the gymnastics club at favorable conditions, which offers a wide range of sporting activities with 1,300 members and an annual fee of 44 euros.

Landlords continue to run the clubhouse

In addition to the upcoming takeover, it was also agreed that the innkeepers Sepp and Eva would continue to run the clubhouse when games began again on May 3rd. The tennis club’s assets will be handed over to the city of Bad Kötzting in accordance with the statutes, and any creditors of the tennis club would have one year to file their claims, explained Wolfgang Höring. The city will pass on the remaining club assets 1:1 to the new tennis department in the gymnastics club. In the upcoming discussions it will be clarified how high the contributions will be in the future, because until now passive members of the tennis club paid 35 euros per year, while active tennis players were asked to pay 110 euros.

Fees apply

From July 1st, the gymnastics club will also collect contributions for the second half of the year and take over the financing of the game operations. During the discussion, Josef Weingut pointed out that tennis players who do not become members of the new TV department will have to pay fees for using the court from July 1st. Wolfgang Höring cited costs of around 1,000 euros per court per year, as the water consumption for the four tennis courts alone is 120 to 150 cubic meters per year.

“Not much will change for the tennis players,” explained TV chairwoman Carola Höcherl-Neubauer. She hopes that Wolfgang Höring will stay with TV as the future head of the tennis department and bring in his experience in reviving the sport of tennis. The tennis facilities should also be available to holiday guests for a fee, suggested honorary chairman Dr. Hans Wolfgang Dittrich.
