The FC Bayern Munich basketball players only have a mathematical chance of reaching the playoffs in the EuroLeague. On Thursday, the Bundesliga basketball team lost its home game against FC Barcelona 79:87 (30:47) and suffered its third defeat in a row in the European Cup.
Two game days before the end of the main round, Bayern are 15th in the table with a record of just 13 wins and 19 defeats and are two wins behind tenth place, which qualifies for the playoffs.
After a defensive start, Barcelona was the first team to find its rhythm: the guests exploited their size advantages, repeatedly came up with good shots near the basket and took a 25:19 lead after the first quarter. With a 0:13 start to the second half, Bayern had to let things slip further and only scored for the first time after five minutes. The deficit at halftime would have been even greater had Serge Ibaka (17 points, 12 rebounds) not scored in the second period.
In the third round, the Munich team appeared more solid offensively and played on an equal footing with Barcelona, but were unable to reduce their deficit. Led by Nick Weiler-Babb (17 points), Bayern came up to six points in the final phase, but were no longer able to seriously threaten the guests.
