It starts again. On Friday, April 5th at 6 p.m., the new Bundesliga season starts with a top game: The German champions from Heidenheim welcome the German Cup winners from Regensburg in the HellensteinEnergie Ballpark. One day later, the North officially opens the new baseball year.

The league includes eleven teams this season. The Mannheim Tornados were relegated to the 2nd league last year. In the north, the Berlin Flamingos have decided to withdraw to the 2nd league despite staying in the league. Since no replacement was found, the North relay this year only includes five instead of six teams.

In the regular season, the teams only meet their competitors from their own division in a round trip. The games are primarily scheduled as singles games over 9 innings and usually take place on Saturdays and Sundays or alternatively on Fridays and Saturdays. Doubleheaders are played over 2x 7 innings.

The regular season ends with the last games on July 20th in the South and July 21st in the North. From the play-offs onwards, the divisions will meet for the first time. As before, the first four places in each season qualify for the main round and meet in the first play-off round in a best-of-5 series (1st North – 4th South, 2nd South – 3rd North, etc.). The quarter-finals start on August 3rd, the semi-finals on August 24th, the final of the German championship on September 7th and ends with a fifth game on September 21st at the latest.

All teams eliminated in the play-offs automatically qualify for the German Cup. The finals will take place on September 28th and 29th with the loser of the German Championship final.

There will be no play-downs in the north this year. In the south, the fifth and sixth placed teams complete a best-of-7 series in the play-downs. The loser qualifies for relegation against the winner of the play-offs in the 2nd Baseball Bundesliga South.
