Carlos Alcaraz knocks out Thiago Seyboth Wild in third round in Madrid

Carlos Alcaraz remains master of his land. The Spaniard beat Thiago Seyboth Wild (6-3, 6-3) on Sunday in the third round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid. After his victory against Alexander Shevchenko (6-2, 6-1), the double title holder continues his walk in Madrid. Dominant on his serve, Alcaraz only left the Brazilian four points on his put in in the first set.

With a 4/4 at the net, Alcaraz made his opponent run by alternating long game and short game. Unsure due to an injury to his right forearm, the world number 3 did not slow down in the second set, leading 5-0. Expeditious, he benefited from Seyboth Wild’s imprecision on his forehand (23 unforced errors).

However, the winner of Wimbledon last summer failed to conclude, committing several unforced errors under pressure from his opponent. The Brazilian won three games in a row, but he started too far away to hope to overturn the match. A new direct error from the 63rd in the world gave victory to the Spaniard, in 1h15′.

Alcaraz will face the German Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16, who defeated Ugo Humbert (7-5, 6-3). A remake of last year’s final, won by (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
