At the sports ceremony in the Salzhaus, the athletes were recognized for their best performances. As always, a young talent was also able to receive a special prize.

The Salzhaus was packed to capacity for the 2023 sports awards ceremony on Wednesday evening. City councilor Jürg Baur was pleased that more athletes were recognized than ever before. A total of 57 individual athletes and 13 teams received financial support from the city, packaged in envelopes.

The young talent and judoka Arthur Stivenson from the Brugg Ju-Jitsu and Judo Club received the largest envelope or a check from the Aargauische Kantonalbank for 1,000 francs. And his palmarès last year is impressive: in December he became Swiss champion among the U18s and vice-Swiss champion among the U21s. He can also call himself Aargau champion in the U18s.

He took first place in six of seven ranking tournaments and third place in the international tournaments in the Netherlands and Liechtenstein. Arthur Stivenson was extremely happy about the prize. His biggest goals are: taking part in the Olympics and becoming world champion.

An athlete who is already vice world champion and European champion is Elena Quirici. The 30-year-old karateka passes on her experiences to the young people in her own karate school in Schinznach-Bad. She is already vice world champion and now she wants to become world champion. “I just never give up,” she said about her motto at the ceremony.

Other European champions came on stage in the Salzhaus: The Kubbclub Wasserschloss with Stefan Obrist, Franz Ludwig and Jacky Suter won the European Championships in Stockholm.

The Brugg Chess Club shone with Jasmin Menz and Jasmin Posch at the Swiss Championships in the U8 category. The two girls won the double victory in rapid chess. In classical chess there was a second place for Jasmin Menz and a third place for Jasmin Posch. At the Aargau Rapid Chess Championships in Aarburg, Ruthvik Vemulapati won the U12 rapid chess category and achieved third place overall.

Exceeded our own “old” record again

As always with a large group, the karateka and the lifeguards from the Baden-Brugg section came on stage. Here Julian Moesch set two new Swiss records; the “old” records also came from him. When asked about his recipe for success, he said: “It’s simply training and motivation.” Julian Roeber, a member of the national team, as well as Sonja Cheptiakova and Serena Kohler, members of the junior national team, took part in the European Championships in Belgium and Poland respectively.

This time the Brugg Tennis Club had a stage for its own club. The new president Matthias Treier briefly introduced the club, which was founded in 1971. He emphasized that of the 500 members, around half were juniors and children. The club’s own tennis school, five outdoor courts and, since 2013, a court for the trendy sport of padel tennis round off the offering.
