The Battle for Champions’ Play-offs and the Race to Avoid Play-downs

The battle for the Champions’ Play-offs has started, but it is also extremely exciting at the bottom. It has yet to be decided who will play the Play-downs. Although it is clear to analyst Dennis Van Wijk that three teams will not be able to avoid this.

Van Wijk sees Standard and Westerlo still playing football out of trouble, but is strict about what happened at the Rouches. OHL and Charleroi will then play again for that fourth-last place.

But it is already too late for RWDM, Eupen and Kortrijk, Van Wijk thinks. “What happened at RWDM with that Textor shouldn’t have happened,” he sighs HLN. “I was there last year at the end of the season against Beerschot. What a fantastic atmosphere and they had a good coach in Euvrard.”

“In one season, things have gone completely to hell there. Eupen and Kortrijk are now the victims of years of mysterious policies from Malaysia and Qatar. They have been flirting with destruction for a while. You can postpone that for a while, but one day you are overtaken by reality.”
