Burnley transfer news: Maxime Esteve joins on loan from Montpellier

Maxime Esteve has played over 50 games since making his Montpellier debut in 2021

Burnley have signed centre-back Maxime Esteve from Ligue 1 side Montpellier on loan until the end of the season.

Esteve, 21, is a product of the French side’s academy and has played more than 50 games since his debut in 2021.

He becomes Burnley’s second signing of the transfer window after David Datro Fofana arrived on loan from Chelsea.

“I have followed the Premier League since being a young child and had only pictured myself ever being here, so I am really excited,” said Esteve.

“The manager [Vincent Kompany] spoke really positively about the project here and I just wanted to be a part of it straight away.”

Meanwhile, defender CJ Egan-Riley has joined Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven on loan until the end of the season.

There could be further deals at Turf Moor on transfer deadline day, with the Clarets looking to seal a move for right-back Lorenz Assignon from Rennes.

Wales full-back Connor Roberts is to have a medical at Leeds, while Hull are in advanced talks to sign Morocco winger Anass Zaroury. Both will be loan deals.
